TUV SW has successfully verified the operation of Test Track 1

25 April 2024

TUV SW has successfully verified the operation of Test Track 1 at uSky Test & Certification Centre for compliance with GoA4 level standards, specifically pertaining to Unattended Train Operation (UTO) in accordance with IEC 62290.

uSky Transport - завершено еще одно успешное испытание

One more successful test completed

GoA4 means total automation. At this level, the transformation is complete and the system has taken over the train, wayside and the platforms. Involvement from the operator has been reduced if not eliminated. The operator’s role is to only monitor the system and get involved if there is a failure the automated system cannot handle, and perform maintenance functions when required.

uSky Transport — Проверка работы необслуживаемых поездов — это многогранный процесс, направленный на обеспечение безопасности, надежности и соответствия нормативным требованиям автономных поездных систем при решении любых возникающих проблем или областей для улучшения.

The inspection of unattended train operation is a multifaceted process aimed at ensuring the safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance of autonomous train systems while addressing any emerging challenges or areas for improvement

During inspection of unattended train operation (UTO)/fully automated operating mode of uCar uSky Transport team together with TUV SW representative revealed the following:

  • The presence of an automatic closing door without any mechanical damage during inspection.
  • The monitoring system in the operator cabin ensuring safe speed, safe route, and safe separation of trains is deemed satisfactory, and indicates that the system is effectively supervising and maintaining appropriate parameters for safe operation.
  • The confirmation that acceleration and brake controls are ensured and functioning correctly, this is vital for the safe operation of the train (uCar).
  • The prevention of collisions with obstacles and individuals on the track by the uCar system signifies the effectiveness of its safety measures. The uCar system's ability to prevent collisions with obstacles and individuals on the track demonstrates its commitment to safety and the integration of advanced technologies for hazard detection and avoidance.
  • All operational and safety related preconditions for controlling passenger doors including opening and closing doors are fulfilled.
  • Safe starting conditions are ensured.
  • Necessary operational preconditions and safety preconditions for a train to leave the station are fulfilled.
  • Change in the direction of train functioning automatically found satisfactory.
  • The automatically monitoring traction driving modes, the system helps ensure optimal performance, energy efficiency, and safety of the train operation, enhancing overall reliability and passenger comfort. Traction driving modes are functioning automatically monitored in the system. The status of the train is supervised. The statement suggests that the traction driving modes of the train are being automatically monitored by a system, and they are functioning properly. Traction driving modes refer to the different settings or configurations in which the train's traction system operates, such as acceleration, deceleration, and cruising.
  • The uCar is capable of automatically stopping at the station with proper operation. This functionality is crucial for ensuring the safety and efficiency of transportation systems.
  • The automatic swing platform described serves as a safety mechanism to prevent injuries to people boarding or alighting from the uCar by bridging the gap between the uCar and the solid platform. The automatic swing platform enhances passenger safety and accessibility, particularly for those with mobility challenges, while also improving the efficiency of boarding and alighting processes at the station.
  • The detection of fire and smoke in the system, as well as the availability of a fire extinguisher within the uCar are ensured, which are critical safety measures.
  • The detection of loss of the train integrity is ensured.
  • For the management of emergency situations, an evacuation procedure along with an evacuation kit available inside the passenger cabin of the uCar, which is crucial for passenger safety in the event of emergencies. Passenger requests (call/evacuation supervision) are manageable via the access to emergency communication devices (emergency call buttons and intercom systems) to alert crew members or emergency responders in case of an emergency.

Based on the above works and tests TUV SW gave the following conclusions:

  • Safe operation and movement of the train (uCar) is ensured.
  • Unattended / fully-automated train (uCar) driving is ensured.
  • Guideway supervision is ensured.
  • Safe passenger transfer supervision is ensured.
  • The detection and management of emergency situation is ensured.
  • The controlled operation of Test Track No. 1 at the uSky Test & Certification Centre in fully automated mode confirmed the fulfillment of the safety requirements provided by the automatic control system of the transport complex.
  • The automation of the complex corresponds to the GoA4 level (Unattended Train Operation (UTO) in accordance with IEC 62290 according to the criteria of ensuring safe traffic conditions, driving and controlling the vehicle, monitoring the path and boarding / disembarking passengers, as well as identifying emergency situations.
  • The main basic functions for driving a vehicle are carried out in accordance with the requirements established for the GoA4 automation level.
