How Much is an Asteroid Worth?

How Much is an Asteroid Worth?

04 November 2021

An article about uSpace by Guillem Alsina has recently appeared on tecnonews.info. Despite the author's peculiar view of string technologies, as well as obvious inaccuracies, since more than half a billion people speak the language of the publication (Spanish) in the world, in our opinion, it deserves attention:

“Unitsky String Technologies is an international company based in Belarus, but with centers in several countries, developing solutions for the transportation of passengers and goods in urban and interurban environments based on the idea of the monorail (?).

Currently, it has a first experimental deployment in the Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park, in the United Arab Emirates.

As stated by the same company, their solution (based on electricity) is cheaper than building a railway or an asphalt track if we count the subsequent costs of maintenance.

The base of its system consists of independent cabins (pods) that travel along a high resistance steel cable attached to anchors on the ground (the columns that hold it) every 50 meters. The system is capable of developing speeds of between 150 and 500 kilometers per hour.

The company, led by the Ukrainian (?) engineer Anatoli Unitsky, brings together more than 700 specialists of various profiles. Unitsky, precisely, launched the riskiest idea of his company in the framework of the Future Mobility Forum held at Gitex 2021, the Dubai technology fair, a few days ago.

And this consists, plain and simple, in building a vertical monorail into space, with the ultimate objective of facilitating the relocation of the energy and chemical production industry, some 300 km above the Earth's surface.

Unitsky, born near Chernobyl, believes that the only way to save the planet is to locate the activities that generate the highest level of pollution in outer space. The project would cost billions of dollars, and should be financed by an international consortium, says the Ukrainian (?) engineer.

Another advantage that the proposal could provide is the use of raw materials that we find in space and that we could hardly exploit from Earth with current technology. This is the case of the asteroid 16 Psyche, the heavy metal content of which makes its value estimated at 70,000 times the entire world economy”.
