Friends, the developer of string technologies has voiced the idea of bringing the project to the market. The fact is that, for example, drones are planned to be tested on the roads of Russia already this year. The first route on which trucks without drivers will appear will be M-11 Moscow - St. Petersburg. Such a project is included in the country's transport strategy. The expected result is fast, safe, and cheap cargo transportation.
How could string transport and infrastructure complexes be integrated into the field of automated transportation?
Today, when developing drones in Russia, priority is given to trucks. The country's transport strategy states that by 2035, up to 30% of all cargo transportation should be autonomous transport. According to the authors of the document, this format of truck movement will make transportation more efficient: a quarter faster and 10% cheaper. Among other factors, delivery will be accelerated by the lack of rest stops for drivers. At the same time, unmanned trucks will solve the problem of the lack of truckers, which is also typical for Russia.
It's all in theory. But, firstly, the equipment of the track will be quite expensive. Sensors, cameras, transducers, radars, and their daily maintenance – all this requires impressive financial costs. Secondly, an insufficient level of security can lead to tragic consequences. For example, cameras do not always correctly identify objects on the roads in bad weather, which can cause an accident.
Meanwhile, the project offers an effective solution in the form of second-tier transport and infrastructure complexes. Unmanned electric vehicles on steel wheels are automated. With the help of the control system, they read information from the track and independently decide to slow down or stop if they “see” a potential danger on the way. The ability to exchange the received data excludes any non-standard situations, unlike the classic unmanned vehicles.
The automated control system makes the string transport resistant to difficult weather conditions. Its use will be especially relevant for harsh climatic conditions. Rail electric vehicles will increase the safety of cargo transportation and optimize the supply of hard-to-reach regions. The company has developed several cargo models of rolling stock with different carrying capacity (from 1 to 35 tons), for different types of cargo (piece and bulk) and for different tasks, with speeds from 80 to 150 km/h.
Thus, string technologies can make a significant contribution to the development of autonomous transport, as well as make transportation cheaper, faster, and safer than classic drones.
