"Here is uSky, the Passenger and Freight Transport of Tomorrow"

10 November 2021

We have recently seen a huge number of reprints of significant articles about string transport, therefore, we are pleased to present you an original publication by an Italian journalist Andrea Barbieri Carones:

“Unitsky is working on the passenger and freight transport of the future, with suspended vehicles halfway between the train and the cable car. Powered by electricity, they can reach 600 km/h and overcome any obstacle.

uSky can carry up to 50,000 passengers every hour

(Rinnovabili.it) – A prototype of a passenger and freight transport system halfway between a cable car and a railway has been inaugurated in the UAE.

This system was launched by Unitsky, a Belarusian company that has inaugurated a $ 14 million test plant, with the aim of demonstrating the functionality of this system.

System that, according to the manufacturer, could serve both as passenger and freight transport. All with electricity and zero CO2 emissions.

The system, called uSky, could be used as early as 2022. This project is about to be funded and built on a large scale. Meanwhile, the company that has designed it continues with the testing phases.

“This is a milestone in our development, said Anatoli Unitsky, founder of uSky's Unitsky String Technologies. By leveraging our advanced technology, we are demonstrating the agility, versatility and functionality of our efficient means of passenger and freight transport. uSky can travel at 150 km/h and carry up to 50,000 passengers per hour at much lower costs than other solutions. All with a minimum environmental impact”.

This passenger and freight transport system consists of driverless electric vehicles designed to travel on a suspended string.

But phase 2 of this system is the creation of uSky capable of travelling even at 500–600 km/h, some of which will be presented to the public at Expo Dubai 2020.

Passenger and freight transport could be operational in 2 or 3 years

The parameters for the construction of such a system are different. First of all, the finding of $ 230 million for other test phases on a 20 km long line and in an area of 100 hectares. The investments to really put the uSky "in action" is $ 580 million.

How long does it take to activate the service? Between refinement, network construction and certification is 2 or 3 years. At the same time, the control systems of the "trains’" management, software, diagnostic and communication systems, energy supply, safety systems and aerodynamic calculations must be perfected.

In the meantime, uSky has received expressions of interest from some governments for the construction and use in their territory. This is in light of the operational advantages of the system. First of all because it does not require the use of land or its expropriation, since it travels overhead. Second: low construction costs compared to trains or subways.

In some versions, the distance between anchor supports even exceeds 3 km, thus allowing easy overcoming of obstacles such as lakes, rivers or gorges. Or even crossroads or motorway junctions. All with vehicles of variable size: there are in fact versions from 2- up to 48-seaters. Combined together, convoys capable of carrying up to 250 people can be created.

The cargo version could carry up to 35 tons. The construction costs? From $ 5 million per kilometer”.

Instead of all the trains passing close to the beautiful touristic coast, Usky would be a blessing for Italy.
