Gulf News

It seems that our project remains the #1 topic in the Middle East media: an article "Sharjah aims to become the first city to roll-out high-speed skypod transport" by senior reporter of “Gulf News” Angel Tesorero, which deals with the development of the string-based passenger and cargo transport system in the emirate, has appeared in this popular news outlet.

Naturally, the tests of the overhead transport system in the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTIP) are not ignored. Then the author introduces the reader to the differences between the suspended transport system and traditional cable cars or air trams and describes the string rolling stock.

Speaking to “Gulf News”, Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTIP, said: "We look forward to commercialising the technology and make it one of the biggest successes in the region. At the moment uSky Transport is testing different passenger and cargo trains…” He added that there are various options and sites for the deployment of a new type of elevated transport system, as part of a comprehensive plan aimed at transforming Sharjah into a sustainable futuristic city: “We all know the challenges posed by traffic congestion and mobility. We believe the uSky project will boost the mobility strategy and infrastructure of Sharjah and the entire UAE because it uses less land and less land but more efficient”.

Further, the author dwells on the characteristics of the rolling stock, considering in more detail the priority cargo, which can transport 20- and 40-foot containers weighing up to 30 tons at a speed of 36 km/h, loading and unloading of which can be carried out by a portal bridge crane or a reach-stacker.
