It is no coincidence that we begin today's publication with a quote from the ancient Roman poet Publilius Syrus. Experienced RSW Systems investors understand the basis for the safety of uSky transport solutions is movement on the “second level” along a clearly fixed track, which excludes the possibility of collisions with other vehicles and other objects outside the complex. In addition, string transport and infrastructure complexes are equipped with an intelligent control system, machine vision and other electronic "stuffing", which reduces emergency situations to almost zero. Nevertheless, designers must foresee everything, even the most, at first glance, incredible scenarios, so they lay down several levels of security systems. This not only meets international requirements in this area, but often exceeds them, which makes the trip for passengers as comfortable and dependable as possible.
To this end, the developer continues to work on improving the emergency towing device – one of the subsystems of the complex, which allows to evacuate the broken rolling stock easily using another vehicle on the line. Thanks to such a device, the string transport can move in a rigid coupling and not create traffic jams, the regularity of the movement is maintained, and the passengers are not stuck high above the ground. UST, Inc. has recently conducted tests of an important component of the emergency towing device – a deformation tube designed to absorb impact energy and slow down the vehicle's speed in the event of an emergency collision. This avoids serious damage to both the vehicle and passengers, as well as the goods inside.
What is the test result?
Let us quote the official announcement of the developer: “The experiments made it possible to determine the optimal geometric parameters, including the optimal thickness of the deformation tube, and to confirm the initial calculations of the designers. After several operations with various samples, experimental data were obtained, which will be used for further calculation and designing of this type of structures.
Considering the results obtained, the deformation tubes will be used for the emergency towing device, including those to prevent excessive loads on the structure and passengers, theoretically possible in the event of a collision of vehicles at speeds over 10 km/h”.
You can read a detailed description of the tests and find out what specific application the design examined in their course will receive by reading the source.
