How to Ensure the Dependability of Transportation Through the Suez Canal?

27 Abril 2021 4583

The string transport developer has proposed an alternative solution to the problems of the Suez Canal, the blockage of which exposed both the inflated cost and the low reliability of maritime transport: the closure of the canal for less than four days, through which about 30% of the world's container traffic and 12% of all trade passes, led to losses of about $ 9.6 billion a day and an increase in oil prices by 6%. There is no doubt that a simple expansion of the channel will not be enough, therefore, the operators of the logistics market have started looking for alternative solutions not related to the traditional transportation by ships through the Suez Canal.

Unitsky String Technologies, Inc. was the first in the world to offer an alternative transport solution: the company's Prestressed Track Structure ™ (PTS ™) technology allows the creation of overhead electric transport complexes with an ultra-light structure (rail-string), along which Unicont® vehicles move along the canal standard 20' and 40' containers in both directions. Unmanned container carriers consist of two traction modules capable of hauling standard ISO containers of this length. They are driven by a traction electric drive powered by a contact network or an on-board energy storage device.

The Unitsky String Technologies, Inc. publication on the initiative also reveals other competitive advantages of this transport solution, such as cost and speed.

The result of the article was the words of the company’s CEO Nadezhda Kosareva: “The situation in the Suez Canal showed the need to diversify the global economy logistics. We are pleased to have contributed to its strengthening through our innovative transport solutions”.
