Publication in the “Khaleej Times”

The closer the commercialization of our project is, the more interest it arouses, which is but natural. There are so many publications that it is impossible to keep track of them, but the most significant ones are reposted by the official resources of the developer, which helps to separate the wheat from the chaff. One of the most recent articles of such is “Sharjah’s sky pods to zip you through city at 120kmph”, written by Sircar Nandini, a correspondent at “Khaleej Times”.

Much of what it contains is already familiar to regular readers of our site, therefore, we will focus only on less known information:

- Once Sharjah’s sky pods start running at their average speed of 120-125kmph, the emirate’s commuters will be able to travel across a distance of 2.4km in less than 60 seconds.

- These sky pods, however, will still have to undergo many more regulatory requirements before any commercial launch, but work is progressing as far as testing is concerned.

- Initial safety trials are complete and a longer test track is set to start operations ahead of Expo 2020 in October.

- The first project in the UAE will come up in Sharjah. These tracks will be incorporated in the local network as well.

- Sky pods’ passenger model can bear a load of 4 tonnes (with passengers) and the cargo model is capable of delivering 40” (12-meter) containers.

- VIP options for U Car can carry four people and there are U Buses that can accommodate up to 16 passengers. Then, there is the option of models that can be connected like a train and it is possible to tailor solutions in accordance to any customer’s desire.

- Block chain technology will be widely used in organizing the work of innovative transport and infrastructure complexes.

- Since the beginning of the development of string technologies in the UAE in 2019, some changes have already been made to adapt to the needs and climate of the country. In particular, this affected the traction bogies of the rolling stock, which have been improved for trouble-free rolling of the wheel on a rail covered with a large amount of dust.

The report ends with the words of Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CE0 of the Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park, who is well known to our readers: “In Sharjah, we are looking at different places like Khor Fakkan and we are working on options within the city as well. We hope to commercialise this technology soon and make it a big success in this region. Mobility is a global topic. We hope sky pods will solve some of the congestion related challenges as it uses less land, less energy and is more efficient. This transport solution is meant to be cost effective and meant to make it more efficient and effective. The uSky project is a key project for us here in Sharjah. It’s a project that we hope will go global”.
