It is time to assess the level of SkyWay specialists’ mastering of the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) in the Modern TRIZ (MTRIZ) educational and project format. In March of this year, Michael Orloff, Professor, Doctor of technical Sciences, founder and CEO of the Academy of Instrumental Modern TRIZ (AIMTRIZ, Berlin) and Global Enterprise for Mastery in TRIZ (GEMTRIZ, Minsk) has conducted an intensive MTRIZ training course. This was followed by the project practice of using MTRIZ to solve current and prospective problems to develop Unitsky String transport.
Modern methods of communication provide really inexhaustible opportunities, especially valuable in the period of viral aggression, and with their help, we asked Professor Orloff a few questions about the progress in the project on mastering the basics of TRIZ by a large group of our company’s professionals (above 130 people):
Mikhail Kirichenko: Mikhail, it has been two months since the end of the introductory lectures at the President Hotel in Minsk. Unfortunately, due to the virus, it is not possible to meet with you in our city right now. On the other hand, the second part of the training is in online mode according to the plan and methodology. We know that our specialists have already “crossed the equator” of the entire training program. How do you assess its progress?
Michael Orloff: Thank you for arranging this interview, Mikhail. This does not allow us to relax, since we have to formulate answers that would be interesting to the website visitors and SkyWay project partners on the go.
In short, I am very satisfied by working with your specialists. We really reached the finishing line of the entire program, despite a very high busyness of the students, as I call all the participants of the training. The main thing: the skill of modeling and solving problems on TRIZ is growing. Almost half of the participants have already submitted the certification work and will be awarded a grade. These works fully reflect the creative search of the company’s professionals, their achievements and real know-how that no other company in the world has and cannot have, as they create technical solutions for the development of completely new technical structures. And not for advertising, but for practical implementation.
М.К.: Are there any secrets of such a rapid growth of students’ skills?
М.О.: Of course, there are some secrets. The first secret is a qualified youth. And professional knowledge is the basis of any creativity, especially engineering. The second secret is Modern TRIZ techniques. Here are my books published over 20 years. By the way, you can see illustrations of Unitsky’s concept of string transport on the covers of the main ones. All this is used in training. As well as in software. And everything is made on the same standard models.
Standardization of the presentation of training and project information is our main “secret” that is described in detail in all my books. Indeed, students see patterns and models presented in the same way in software, in a book, in handout and in modeling samples. A fragment of the standard representation of the process to create a new idea can be seen on a scan of one of the students’ papers.
The power of creativity is in the discipline of thinking and methodological standard!
Therefore, no time is spent on “recognizing” where and what is written, but an immediate insight into the content of the problem and the process of solving it occurs. This has many advantages. In general, MTRIZ sets up the discipline of creative thinking, especially engineering project thinking.
М.К.: Michael, are there any special features of working with our company’s students compared to many others where you have had the opportunity to conduct training? In fact, you conducted training all over the world!
М.О.: Of course, it is easier for me to work in my native city of Minsk in my native language, even if this work is now being conducted remotely from Berlin. But there is also a greater difference. I have seen and see many talented and motivated students in various countries. They are usually employees of major companies, where the share of young people is less than in SkyWay. And in your company, where I was invited by Anatoli Unitsky, I saw a team encouraged to design the future of the world. It is an unusual feeling when you realize that these young people are designing new realities with their talent, perseverance, knowledge and creativity. And not only designing, but also building! Both in Maryina Gorka and in Sharjah. And they also find time to work on MTRIZ project program. Dozens, hundreds of students’ works come especially intensively in the evening, as well as on weekends and holidays. This is how we must work to bring the future closer!
М.К.: I see in your hands a clock presented to you by the management of our company. What time does it show?
М.О.: This clock is very symbolic to me. We started our project with it at the President Hotel and now it is placed in my office. Moreover, with an autograph from Anatoli Unitsky! Yes, indeed, the time for Unitsky String transport has come. At the same time, we all have to solve numerous problems of designing, production and operation every day and find creative ideas to deal with them. By the way, the processes of informing the general public also require a lot of creativity. TRIZ has appropriate guidelines for this purpose, too. It is possible that the time has already come to start training specialists from different countries to master the principles of arranging string systems, their designing, application, operation and adaptation to regional conditions. Modern TRIZ will also bring significant benefits in it.
М.К.: What would you like to wish our specialists to do at the project’s finish?
М.О.: The same thing that I said at lectures and write in mailout, where I address students not only with instructions, but also with certain motivating thoughts. Colleagues, this entire world was invented and built by engineers. This is you. And in SkyWay, you directly create ideas of systemic growth for the future transport arteries of the planet, as a single organism, in which there should be no “blood clots” and “collapses” on the roads. We need tracks that connect the best places to live with other similar places, perhaps intended for the work with machines, in workshops, forests and fields, as well as with major cities where we will get some other, most likely cultural benefits: a theater, a museum, a stadium. Cargo should be transported between all points on the globe. We need some other transport routes: safe, speedy, united into rational intelligent systems. All this is being laid down today in SkyWay divisions. And all this requires talent and systematic creative designing. Talent is in priority. And creative designing with Modern TRIZ. TRIZ is a tool for talent. Master these tools!
