Latest News on EXPO 2020

After the 2020 summer XXXII Olympic games in Tokyo were postponed for a year last week, Expo 2020 was the last major international event that was still officially scheduled to go ahead this year. And now all the world's news agencies have reported that its organizers supported the proposal to postpone the event also for one year because of the coronavirus pandemic. "Many countries have been significantly impacted by COVID-19 and they have therefore expressed a need to postpone the opening of Expo 2020 Dubai by one year, to enable them to overcome this challenge," Minister for International Cooperation of the UAE, General Director of the Organizational Bureau of EXPO 2020 Reem al Hashimi said in a statement. "The UAE and Expo 2020 Dubai have listened. And in the spirit of solidarity and unity, we supported the proposal to explore a one-year postponement at today's Steering Committee meeting."

The event has helped boost Dubai's critical real-estate market and had officials hoping for more tourists in the city-state that is home to the world's busiest airport for international travel. However, the pandemic has currently grounded flights by Dubai's long-haul carrier Emirates, jeopardized global tourism and caused further panic in a real-estate market already down by a third since the 2014 announcement.

A final decision will be made in June by member states of the Paris-based Bureau International des Expositions, which awards the event organizers. The delay is set to be a significant blow for Dubai as the emirate - which would have spent more than 8 billion dollars on Expo-related infrastructure projects by the end of the fair - was relying on the event to boost its economy. An estimated 11 million overseas visitors were expected to attend the showpiece of culture, business and technology featuring pavilions from 192 countries.

The postponement of EXPO 2020 will not be a tragedy for SkyWay project, as General Designer Anatoli Unitsky recently stated in his video interview. On the contrary, with the transition to a pre-arranged plan "B", the Group of Companies will save significant amounts of money estimated in millions of dollars, which could be frozen for more than a year. During this time, the SkyWay Innovation Center in Sharjah will be replenished with new types of track structure, rolling stock and infrastructure facilities, which will further raise our stakes in the eyes of future guests to the world forum.

But most importantly, we believe that during the additional year that we seem to have gained, real targeted projects will be added to all this. They will be intended to become the first step on the way to commercial implementation of SkyWay projects.

In addition to professionalism, education, experience, charisma and many other necessary qualities, a true leader must have the most important thing: the ability to convince those who follow him of the correctness of the chosen path, for which he should foresee the development of events even when nothing yet forecasts problems, and provide an alternative course of action. In this situation, we can say with full confidence that the project of creating Unitsky’s String Transport really has such a leader!

Ближе к осени все решения перенести выставку сойдут на нет, более чем уверен, что в текущем году выставка пройдет по плану.
