How is the “Heart” of String Transport Created?

27 September 2022

Dear fellow-thinkers, we are sharing with you a publication with which the string technology developer company is starting a series of reports about its design bureaus. Today we will talk about the bureau "Electric Drive". It is here that the "heart" of string transport is created: electric motors, as well as other important components of the rolling stock.

The design bureau was created at the end of 2017, when there were only 7 people in it. Today, there are 17 engineers and 7 people at the assembly sites – a total of 24 specialists. The design bureau is engaged in the development and manufacture of electric motors, energy storage devices, power converters and electronic components. In addition, here they develop circuitry and topology of printed circuit boards of electronic devices, the necessary software for both microcontrollers and personal computers. The bureau also develops and manufactures the necessary equipment for assembly and testing. For example, the "Electric Drive" specialists have designed and manufactured a load stand for testing energy storage devices. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that for the drives you can set the required load by simply pressing on the touch control screen. During the development, the engineers of the department carry out a realistic simulation of thermal and electromagnetic processes.

As you can see, the design bureau implements a full cycle from the development of technical specifications “at the input” to the receipt of the finished product “at the output”.

Design Bureau "Electric Drive" is located on the production facilities of the company’s "SW Plant". This allows them to speed up the process of creating engines, converters, energy storage devices, electronic components. Thanks to the location of the office at the production, the developers quickly resolve issues that arise during the manufacturing process and make the necessary changes to the design documentation. Employees of assembly sites, being in constant interaction, receive the necessary advice from the developer.

The company's products in terms of their characteristics are at the level of foreign analogues, and in some respects even surpass them.

The design bureau creates electric motors for each vehicle, considering the necessary requirements: rotational speed, torque, zone of maximum efficiency. All energy storage devices for string transport are also designed and assembled here. Now, the team is working on a generation 5 energy storage device for the rolling stock, which can be replaced in vehicles without human intervention. The design priority is safety, cost-effectiveness, and durability of the drive.
