"Don't Look Up"

"Don't Look Up"

10 February 2022

Anatoli Unitsky, the creator of string transport, continues to maintain his personal blog. This time he has decided to express his impressions of watching a sensational movie:

“Hard hit. That, of course, is not about the plot, big-name acting or overall production. Heated debate around the movie “Don’t Look Up” and its topic could not have gone unnoticed by even those who doesn’t really care about cinematography preferring spend more time working out the solutions that have to save humanity. The movie gathered a lot of rather negative and positive reviews. I won’t play critic as I’m an engineer and scientist. My mission is to be a creator and build a better world. However, I couldn’t help but notice how tellingly, although hyperbolized, this satirical comedy underscores people’s shallowness, absurdity, and conceit. And the main character’s story seemed horribly familiar to me…"

According to the inventor, no one cares about saving the planet. But first, about the plot of the picture. Two astronomers have discovered a comet with a diameter of 9 km, which flies straight to Earth. The collision could destroy human civilization. The US government plans to strike a celestial body with nuclear warheads to change its course. Scientists are sounding the alarm, trying to warn society about an upcoming planetary catastrophe, but they are faced with the fact that people are more interested in some completely ordinary, everyday things, and no one cares about the problem of the death of mankind: there is no time, no need, and no interest in doing this. Moreover, this global problem is annoying. Everyone wants just to stay positive.

According to Unitsky, this situation is the personification of the actual global problems of mankind, and the reaction of the characters in the film is an allegory of the attitude of people in real life to the above problems: “Let other people deal with it and he or she would better do some more “important” staff: watching a talk show on another juicy celebrity scandal or the presentation of a new smartphone”.

You can find out about the way to deal with it in reality proposed by the person who calls himself “The New World’s Engineer” by reading the publication “Review by scientist and engineer: Anatoli Unitsky on smash hit “Don’t Look Up””.
